Mercedes-Benz 2024 AMG C63 S E: In the history of cars, there will always be room for the initial 2008 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. That C63 was a fast, high-revving Bahn-stormer with 451 horsepower provided by the 6.2-liter V8 engine. Furthermore, it used a hot-rodding methodology that was well-known to US consumers: the smallest Mercedes vehicle was fitted with the largest displacement engine.
The little AMG flagship has seen a few alterations since the original C63. The twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 took the place of the normally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 for the 2016 model year, yet it still generated more power and torque. Customers couldn’t care less and ate up each C63 they could get their hands on.
We can only hope that customers will be equally understanding of the 2024 Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Perform, which goes even further in the direction of downsizing by chopping out half the cylinders – yes, this one has a 2.0-liter inline-four.
Be at ease. AMG engineers provided the meanest C-Class a turbocharged engine with instantaneous electronic spooling in return for the displacement loss, as well as a backyard electric engine and battery arrangement to add even more power. The 2024 C63 now produces 671 horsepower and a mind-blowing 752 pound-feet of acceleration as a plug-in hybrid. Those performance numbers are among the best ever recorded for an AMG product, not just a road-going C-Class.

The Mercedes-AMG C63’s turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, also known as the M139, is the car’s literal heart and soul. The internal combustion engine has 476 horsepower (350 kW), giving it the most potent manufacturing four-banger on the planet despite the absence of hybrid propulsion technology. The engine has an electrically operated turbocharger, similar to the one on the less potent C43 model, which lowers lag to almost unnoticeable levels. The turbocharger, which is based on Formula 1 technology, has a small electric motor situated between the compressor wheel and the exhaust turbine that activates when the driver requests boost.
Super-sedan buyer of today needs more. The electric motor installed at the back fills this role. The motor, which can operate independently or in conjunction with the gas engine, delivers 204 horsepower (150 kW) to the road using a 6.1 kilowatt-hour battery and a 400-volt electrical system. According to AMG Chief Innovation Officer Jochen Hermann, the electrification plan isn’t really focused on performance in the former scenario, where the C63 will be able to go roughly 8 miles on pure electricity. Alternatively, this car is designed to move quickly.
The C63 produces the aforementioned 671 horsepower and 752 lb-ft when all of its cylinders are running, and it can accelerate to 60 mph in as little as 3.3 seconds with a peak 150 kW of ions of electrons streaming out of the battery. With a top speed that almost matches its predecessors at 174 mph with an additional AMG Driver’s package, it is roughly half a second faster than the outgoing C63. The original C63 S could reach 180 mph, but who else is counting? Although the new C63 probably won’t have the street howl of its predecessors, it should still be quite expressive. The iconic AMG sound profile is more significant than ultimate numbers.
That’s because it has several audio tuning capabilities, such as an exhaust sensor that measures noise pressure and then amplifies it through the stereo sound for a more thrilling soundtrack. The sound that enters the cabin is amplified, not generated or altered, so the vehicle will continue to sound like such a turbocharged four-banger, Mercedes is eager to point out. The C63 should still be quite thrilling to rev out if it sounds similar to the terrifying CLA 45.
Performance of the 2024 Mercedes-AMG C63 S
An increasingly common nine-speed multi-clutch transmission is an integral part of the acceleration experience. The AMG Speed shift MCT, which differs from a dual gearbox in that it uses a sophisticated, wet clutch pack in place of a transfer case, allows the C63 to respond to the throttle more quickly than a traditional automatic transmission while also being more refined at low speeds. The electric motor also has a built-in two-speed transmission, guaranteeing plenty of e-boost at even high speeds.
Additionally, the most popular C-Class will have all-wheel drive for the initial time in history. The so-called 4Matic+ system has a limited-slip rear differential that is electronically controlled, but for almost instantaneous response, the electric motor operates directly on the rear axle. The electric motor can also rotate the driveshaft, which turns the front wheels, thanks to a clutch system. This implies that the C63 still has four-wheel grip even when running in pure EV mode.

But even before you turn it on, the C63 leaves a bad impression. It has a larger front track, which increases total width by 3.0 inches compared to the normal C-Class. With flared arches which are about 2 inches wider, a front skirthas been blasted out appropriately. Additionally, the wheelbase is extended by 0.4 inches, and the car is overall 3.3 inches longer than the C43 and C300 versions. The C63’s gradual size increases give it a sturdy and commanding stance, and the few aesthetic tweaks keep it from feeling obnoxious and shouty but rather quietly strong.
The changes in the front are the most noticeable. The Pan Americana grille, which pays homage to the 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL racer and has been a trademark of AMG goods since 2016, is housed in an inverted trapezoid grille aperture. The double-domed hood is still another nod to the past, but the 2024 C63 adds a special vent between the two bulges that faces the back to help cool the engine compartment. The C63, as expected, sports the most daring front bumper design of any C-Class, particularly with the forceful chin splitter from the optional aero package.
